Why Art du Congo exists
There was no reference list of makers working in the Republic of the Congo. We looked for one, it did not exist, so we are writing it.
Search for a Congolese painter, or a photographer in Brazzaville. You will land on lists of musicians, on foreign galleries selling the same three names, and on two Congolese sites that no longer answer. Nobody keeps the list of the people creating here, now, with their work and a way to reach them.
What we do
One page per maker, opened by them, with their consent. Their city, their trade, their studio, their phone number or their shop link, and their work presented the way they choose. We sell nothing on their behalf and we take nothing from what they sell.
What we do not do
We are not a gallery, not an agent, not a jury. We do not decide who has talent and we do not stand between a maker and their client. A directory, not a shopfront we would run in their place: there is only the work here.
Across the country
We start in Brazzaville, because that is where we are and where we can meet people, photograph and check. Pointe-Noire, Dolisie and the rest of the country follow, one page at a time.
